National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources -Master’s degree in Library & Information Science

NISCAIR conducts a two-year course, Associateship in Information Science (AIS) which is equivalent to Master’s degree in Library & Information Science and is recognized by Government of India and many Universities. Applications are invited for admission to the AIS 2011-2012 batch of the course commencing from September 15, 2011.


Eligibility: Applicant should have minimum of 50% aggregate marks in :
(i) Master’s degree; or
(ii) Four-year plus degree like B.E./M.B.B.S. ; or
(iii) Bachelor’s degree plus B.Lib.Sc. plus one year of relevant experience after B.Lib.Sc.
(iv) Students who have appeared in the final year examination of (i) and (ii) above are also eligible for applying for admission to the Course. However, their cases will be considered only in the event of their final results being declared before the final selection and their obtaining a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.
(v) Candidates should be below 40 years of age as on August 01, 2011. For sponsored candidates, the age limit may be raised to 50 years.


Selection: A total of twenty-five candidates would be selected based on Admission Test (July 21, 2010) and Interview (First week of August, 2011).


Test Centres: New Delhi, Kolkata and Bangalore
The Admission Test will be of two-hour duration and is intended to test the candidates’ skills in English language, general knowledge, basic mathematics and logic to ascertain their aptitude towards information science.


Interview Centre: NISCAIR, New Delhi
Candidates found successful in the admission test will be called for final selection only at New Delhi. Shortlisted outstation candidates appearing for interview will be paid 2nd class sleeper return rail fare or equivalent as per the shortest route.


Scholarships: Provision for scholarship to non-sponsored meritorious students @ Rs. 2000/- per month for a period of 9 months exists.

Application form, complete in all respects, should be submitted to the Head, ETD, NISCAIR on or before July 12, 2011.
