Sang Pencerah : Kisah Perjuangan Ahmad Dahlan

Jumpa Fans ? Oh bukan, lagi jumpa wartawan ^^

Bertempat di kantor Muhammadiyah di kawasan Menteng, Jakarta Pusat,  Multivision Pictures kembali memperkenalkan film terbarunya. Menggandeng sutradara handal Hanung Bramantyo, film berjudul Sang Pencerah yang mengangkat kisah pendiri Muhammadiyah K.H. Ahmad Dahlan akan segera meramaikan perfilman Indonesia.

“Sang Pencerah memang menceritakan tentang kisah K.H. Ahmad Dahlan, namun dibalik itu semua film ini bercerita tentang perjuangan. Di dalamnya berisi tentang semangat anak muda, patriotisme anak muda dalam merepresentasikan pemikiran-pemikirannya,” ujar sang sutradara saat syukuran film Sang Pencerah di Menteng (18/05).

Rencananya film Sang Pencerah akan memulai proses produksi pada 21 Juni dan diperkirakan akan memakan waktu 35 hari untuk pengambilan gambar. Untuk syutingnya sendiri sang sutradara telah menentukan tempat yang pas untuk setting film yang berlatar tahun 1800 ini.

“Film ini akan memulai syuting di Yogya, Ambarawa Semarang, Jakarta dan Bogor. Sebenarnya setting utama film ini ada di Yogya dan lebih sempit lagi di Kauman, di sekitar keraton Yogya,” tutur suami Zaskia Mecca itu. Ditambahkan Hanung alasan pemilihan keempat kota itu juga dimaksudkan karena menurutnya sudah sangat sulit menampilkan kembali set kota Yogya khususnya Kauman di tahun 1800.

Sang Pencerah rencananya akan dirilis pada lebaran tahun ini dan merupakan salah satu film yang sudah lama ingin dibuat oleh Hanung, namun karena keterbatasan dana, film ini baru bisa diproduksi sekarang. Film yang menghabiskan dana sekitar 12 miliar rupiah ini akan diperkuat oleh Slamet Rahardjo, Lukman Sardi, Sujiwo Tejo, Giring Nidji, Ikranegara dan Zaskia Mecca.

Movie review: Into the Arms of Strangers

Although made in 2000, I just recently watched the film Into the Arms of Strangers: Stories of the Kindertransport. The Kindertransport refers to the rescue operation of 10,000 Jewish children in 1938-1939. These children that were facing Hitler's persecution were allowed to leave German-occupied territories and travel by train to Great Britain. There, they were placed in foster homes or hostels.

Into the Arms of Strangers interviews a few of these child survivors. They recount their memories of being separated from their parents and welcomed into a foreign country. Poignant moments are when the survivors recall the joy of knowing that non-Jewish peers would play with them, feeling love from their foster parents, or being reunited with their families. Of course, many of the parents who could not leave Germany perished in concentration camps and the film shows the sadness of the children who, only after years of separation, realized that they would never see their parents again.

Into the Arms of Strangers won a 2000 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, and it is easy to understand why. The archival footage alone makes the film worth seeing.
