Teenager: Berlusconi gave her euro7,000 ($9,350)

A teenager at the heart of the latest criminal probe of Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi says the billionaire media mogul gave her euro7,000 ($9,350) when she came to a Valentine's Day soiree at his villa but reiterated she didn't have sex with him.
Milan prosecutors were investigating whether Berlusconi paid for sex with an underage girl from Morocco and then abused his power in trying to cover up the encounters. Berlusconi has criticize the probe, calling the allegations "incredible and grotesque."
The teenager, a nightclub dancer nicknamed Ruby, said Saturday in an interview on Sky TG24 TV that Berlusconi didn't know she was a minor when she was invited to his villa near Milan last year "because I told everyone I was 24," not 17.
Asked why Berlusconi gave her the money at the first of several evening parties she said she attended at one of his villas outside Milan, Ruby replied, "because I had just arrived in Milan and he knew of my difficult family situation" and wanted to help.
As in other interviews Ruby has given, she reiteated that there was "absolutely no" sex between them. Ruby, now 18, said that guests dined and danced at the parties and that Berlusconi "sang and told jokes."
Prosecutors say they are investigating whether the premier had sex with the then-17-year-old girl and then used the powrs of his office to try to cover up the encounter. Prosecutors issued a summons Friday for Berlusconi and his lawyers to appear for questioning.
Berlusconi has been engulfed in several scandals stemming from his private life, including reports of wild parties at his mansions and alleged encounters with prstitutes.
In one case, Patrizia D'Addario, a self-described call girl, said she spent the night with Berlusconi when Barack Obama was elected U.S president. She later gave purported tapes of her encounter with Berlusconi to an Italian magazine.
In 2009, his second wife, Veronica Lario, announced she was divorcing him, citing Berlusconi's purported fondness for younger women. Berlusconi has made no apologies for his lifestyle, but has denied ever paying to have sex.

MLK III: US shootings underscore father's message

The son of Martin Luther King Jr. says the recent shootings in Arizona that killed six and left a congresswoman critically wounded shows the work of his father must continue.
Martin Luther King III spoke Saturday at a dinner where the King Center is honoring the late Massachusetts Sen. Edward M. Kennedy's work on civil rights. A posthumous award is being presented to the senator's widow, Vicki Kennedy. The senator, who died in 2009 at age 77 following a battle with cancer, helped make King's birthday a national holiday.
King's son said the shooting of Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords make his father's message of nonviolence resonate particularly strongly.
Both families have been touched by political violence. President John Kennedy was assassinated in 1963, and King and Sen. Robert Kennedy were slain in 1968.
King's birthday holiday will be observed Monday.

ASEAN's foreign ministers meet in Lombok

Ten ASEAN foreign ministers and representatives from the Philippines and Vietnam are meeting for a retreat in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara on Sunday.
The ministers would discuss the ASEAN community, a regional architecture for work and the ASEAN community in a global context, Indonesia's ASEAN representative I Gede Ngurah Swajaya said in Sunday as quoted by tempointeraktif.com online news portal.
According to I Gede, the retreat would build upon previous meetings held by the ASEAN Coordinating Council and the ASEAN Coordinating Committee on Connectivity.
"The ministers are also scheduled to plant trees and release turtles into the sea," he said.

Australians grieve, search for more flood victims

Survivors of devastating Australian floods sought solace Sunday in church services while emergency workers searched through sodden wrecked homes for victims.
Three weeks of flooding across Australia's northeast have left a vast territory underwater and caused 27 deaths, most of them from a flash flood that hit towns west of Brisbane on Monday. Fourteen people are still missing.
In Grantham, described as the epicenter of the flash flood, 70 percent of the town remained cordoned off while searchers looked for bodies. The body of one woman was found Sunday in her wrecked house.
People I hope will understand the pressure that the police are working under in these sorts of circumstances and be patient," Queensland state Premier Anna Bligh said. "They are working as hard as they can to be in a position to allow people back into Grantham as quickly as possible."
The wall of water that swept through the town left dozens of smashed cars wedged in trees or bogged in fields, tilted houses off foundations and piled up muddied belongings in the streets.
In nearby Murphys Creek, a church service at the local pub was held for survivors to grieve and remember their lost friends and family.
"Words really cannot express what the people of the Lockyer Valley are feeling at the moment," local parliament representative Scott Buchholz said after the service. They "are emotionally fragile yet display a bravery that is remarkable."
Cleanup continued in Australia's third-largest city, Brisbane, where 30,000 homes and businesses were flooded. The complete cleanup could take months and reconstruction up to two years.
The engorged rivers that flooded towns in Queensland state have spread into states to the south. In New South Wales, nearly 7,000 people have been isolated by floodwaters that overflowed highways and emergency services helicopters air-dropped food and other supplies to residents.
In northern Victoria, a dozen small communities were sandbagging amid fears of high-peaking rivers, and 3,000 people have evacuated.

Tabrakan kereta api di pemalang

Kereta api Argo Bromo Anggrek menabrak KA Senja Utama di Petarukan Pemalang, Jawa Tengah. Tabrakan ini menewaskan 36 orang dan 38 luka-luka. Kecelakaan kereta api kelas eksekutif Argo Bromo jurusan Jakarta-Surabaya dengan KA Senja Utama kelas bisnis jurusan Jakarta-Semarang terjadi di lintasan Desa Jatimulyo, Kecamatan Petarukan, Kabupaten Pemalang, Sabtu 2 Oktober 2010 sekitar pukul 03.00 WIB.

Adik Sepupu Tukul Arwana bernama Hanna Adi Warsito asal Ngrembel, Gunungpati, Semarang. Penumpang KA Senja Utama Juga menjadi korban tewas dalam kecelakaan kereta api tersebut.

A View of Tropical Storm Igor

Experts at the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) announce that a new tropical storm has developed on the Western African coast on September 8. The atmospheric event has been named Igor.

This is only the latest addition in a string of storms that have been developing all over the Atlantic Ocean at a brisk pace. With the hurricane season in full swing, weather researchers are keeping an eye on every formation that may turn deadly once around the United States.
According to predictions made by experts in the field before the onset of the new hurricane season, 2010 will see a multitude of large tropical storms, and potentially hurricanes, developing in the Atlantic.

This is why various groups have begun conducting studies in the Gulf and off the US southeastern coast, in a bid to determine the factors that make tropical storms and depression become killer storms.

It is widely known for example that some of these atmospheric events simply fizzle out after a few days, dissolving in medium or heavy rain showers and relatively intense winds.

But some of them to not go silent, but rather turn into hurricanes, which produce tornadoes, twisters, and cause widespread devastation. Sometimes, the storms also take tolls in human lives.

Studies conducted for determining precisely what causes these differences have thus far remained unanswered, but experts hope that the large numbers of storms this year will provide sufficient readings to obtain an answer.

The peak of the 2010 hurricane season is expected between late August and early October, and so we're currently right in the middle of it.

Estimates show that anywhere between 14 and 20 tropical storms will develop throughout the season, of which between 8 and 12 will develop into hurricanes. This should give scientists enough to work with.

Tropical storm Igor is no exception As soon as it formed, at 11 am ET on September 10, specialized networks and satellites established its location.

The storm was located some 465 miles (748 kilometers) west of the Cape Verde Islands, in the far eastern Atlantic Ocean.

Data showed the atmospheric event moving westwards, and featuring winds with speeds nearing 64 kilometers per hour (40 miles per hour).

The NHC estimates that, by Sunday, Igor will turn into a hurricane, OurAmazingPlanet reports.

Waspada! Penipuan Berkedok Rental Mobil Jelang Lebaran

Jakarta - Maksud hati mudik Lebaran dengan mobil rental, 10 orang malah tertipu jutaan rupiah. Pemilik rental mobil membawa kabur uang sewa yang sudah dibayar. Rencana mudik pun berantakan.

Uang sewa sudah terlanjur disetor, namun saat mobil hendak dipakai untuk mudik Lebaran, rental yang beroperasi di Petojo Utara, Jakarta Pusat tersebut tutup. Lantas, para korban melapor ke polisi.

"10 Orang sudah melapor. Mereka dapat info dari koran," ujar Kanit Reskrim Polsek Gambir, AKP Mustakim di Polsek Gambir, Jakarta Pssat, Senin (6/9/2010).

Menurut Mustakim, korban ditawari dengan harga sewa mobil sebesar Rp 2,5 juta untuk masa pakai 10 hari. Sebagian sudah membayar lunas sejak tanggal 20 Agustus 2010.

Namun, saat mobil hendak diambil di PT Bela Eva, Jl Pembangunan 2 no 4 Petojo Utara, lokasi yang disebut sebagai kantor rental tersebut sepi. "Tidak ada siapa pun di dalamnya," tambah Mustakim.

Kini, polisi sedang memburu Hendra, pria yang mengaku sebagai pemilik rental. Sejumlah korban yang melapor ke polsek Gambir kerap berhubungan dengan pria tersebut untuk melakukan transaksi.

"Saya datang ke kantor itu untuk membayar kepada Pak Hendra tanggal 20 Agustus kemarin untuk 10 hari. Pas datang tadi ke kantor sudah tutup dan pemilik rental tidak bisa dihubungi padahal semalam saya masih berkomunikasi," ujar salah seorang korban, Naidi (25).

Bertempat di kantor Muhammadiyah di kawasan Menteng, Jakarta Pusat,  Multivision Pictures kembali memperkenalkan film terbarunya. Menggandeng sutradara handal Hanung Bramantyo, film berjudul Sang Pencerah yang mengangkat kisah pendiri Muhammadiyah K.H. Ahmad Dahlan akan segera meramaikan perfilman Indonesia.

“Sang Pencerah memang menceritakan tentang kisah K.H. Ahmad Dahlan, namun dibalik itu semua film ini bercerita tentang perjuangan. Di dalamnya berisi tentang semangat anak muda, patriotisme anak muda dalam merepresentasikan pemikiran-pemikirannya,” ujar sang sutradara saat syukuran film Sang Pencerah di Menteng (18/05).

Rencananya film Sang Pencerah akan memulai proses produksi pada 21 Juni dan diperkirakan akan memakan waktu 35 hari untuk pengambilan gambar. Untuk syutingnya sendiri sang sutradara telah menentukan tempat yang pas untuk setting film yang berlatar tahun 1800 ini.

“Film ini akan memulai syuting di Yogya, Ambarawa Semarang, Jakarta dan Bogor. Sebenarnya setting utama film ini ada di Yogya dan lebih sempit lagi di Kauman, di sekitar keraton Yogya,” tutur suami Zaskia Mecca itu. Ditambahkan Hanung alasan pemilihan keempat kota itu juga dimaksudkan karena menurutnya sudah sangat sulit menampilkan kembali set kota Yogya khususnya Kauman di tahun 1800.

Sang Pencerah rencananya akan dirilis pada lebaran tahun ini dan merupakan salah satu film yang sudah lama ingin dibuat oleh Hanung, namun karena keterbatasan dana, film ini baru bisa diproduksi sekarang. Film yang menghabiskan dana sekitar 12 miliar rupiah ini akan diperkuat oleh Slamet Rahardjo, Lukman Sardi, Sujiwo Tejo, Giring Nidji, Ikranegara dan Zaskia Mecca.

It's time to change our thinking on the first manned Mars mission. Actually I'm not sure what the thinking is but I am sure that whomever is flown there would want to return to earth.
Well, that would be too expensive.

Let's see, you could send me. I'm 78 years old and willing to take a trip to Mars and not come back. I'm sure that NASA could find a qualified person who thinks the same way I do, willing to stay there and let the dry wind dry his bones right in view of a NASA camera.

Don't you think that would be great television?
Wouldn't those of us who where left behind be glued to the boob tube screen?

The cost of a manned Mars mission will be exorbitant just like each of the unmanned space missions. But a tremendous amount of money could be saved and much information to make the NASA scientist happy for years could be obtained by an old person wondering around picking up rocks on Mars.
The cost of the return trip would be eliminated and our deficit would not increase so much.
I'm sure f China goes first, the no-return astronaut will be a Buddhist Monk.

I've decided that the first astronaut to Mars from NASA should be a woman--since I know they will not let me go. Many women have more patience, would like to be left alone, and can stand suffering much better than man. She would have hunger pains if the food and water died out before she did. She could stand that because women are use to long diets.

A man would be happy too, because he would not have to shave or take a bath.
He could become a Mars hermit.

The armored version of the Jaguar XJ will appear in this month International Motor Show in Moscow. The expertise of Jaguar Land Rover in the armored vehicle market has produced the perfect car for anyone who is under constant fear of being attacked, offering discreet protection coupled with real world usability.

The Jaguar XJ Sentinel is an armored version of the 2011 XJ and features high-strength steels and Kevlar protection. The car can survive an explosion of 33 pounds of TNT and offers protection even from grenades detonating below the car. All the anti-bullet gear has added to the car's weight, almost doubling it. The long-wheel based sedan is equipped with an armoring system that is not detectable from the outside. On the other hand, performance is lower as it takes 9.7 seconds to reach 63 mph while a stock car only takes five or six seconds to reach the same speed. Its top speed is 121 mph. The 385 horsepower V8 engine and six-speed automatic transmission are the same as for the regular XJ cars.

From the outside, it looks like a regular factory-stock car and has the same amount of space and comfort. Bigger brakes are fitted to cope with the increased weight. The high performance braking system offers an incredible stopping power, while safety is ensured by a full array of advanced traction and stability systems. Stronger 19-inch wheels made from Aleutian allow with run-flat tires and upgraded suspension and steering components are however used on the Sentinel.

The lightweight aluminium body structure allows for competitive performance even though the total weight is increased by all the armoring system. The chassis features the Adaptive Dynamic system with variable dampers and has been uprated for the increased body weight. The inner cell was the result of a partnership with Centigon, who specialize in vehicle armoring. The protection is certified by QinetiQ which is an independent organization with world wide recognition.

The new armored Jaguar XJ Sentinel will make its debut at the Moscow auto show in August. This armored luxury limousine can be useful for governments, businesses or security organizations. Jaguar XJ is the company's flagship model in production since 1968. The fourth generation XJ was launched in 2009.

Ford Motor Company bought Jaguar Land Rover in 2000 but sold it to Tata Motors of India in 2008. The global economic crisis hit Tata Motors after the purchase. In May 2010, Tata Motors announced plans to build Jaguar cars in China, together with Land Rovers. In an effort to reduce costs and expand sales, one of the facilities in England where Jaguar XJ cars are assembled will be closed.

However, the growing demand for luxury cars worldwide started to show in the profits registered by the company in the first part of 2010. Tata Motors announced increased sales for Jaguar and Land Rover this year and the trend for luxury cars has helped the company boost its profits.
