The Ministry of Labour & Employment has taken the present shape and status through different changes and development since independence. Considering the importance of employment for socio-economic development and poverty alleviation.
The objective of the Ministry of Labour & Employment is to alleviate poverty through creating employment opportunities for the poor, unemployed and unskilled labour force of the country.
Now the ministry is under Eng. Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, Minister, Ministry of Labour & Employment and Expatriate Welfare & Overseas Employment Govt. of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and Begum Monnojan Sufian, State Minister, Ministry of Labour & Employment Govt. of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.
