More South American summer by the sea news! Last night, Argentina's 39th Reina Nacional del Mar was elected in Mar del Plata. Blonde María Jimena Indurain, 23, won the coveted title. Antonella Scollo, 20, was first runner-up; Maira Salpurido, 18, was second runner-up. 12 women competed for the title.

The 12 finalists for the 39ª Reina Nacional del Mar title

Speaking of Miss Universo Buenos Aires, Dean Harris, who has a fondness for Argentina, would like to share with you other, miscellaneous Argentine pageants that will be held in the coming days and weeks.

The 39ª Reina Nacional del Mar will be elected next week. 12 women are competing for the coveted title. Yesica Di Vicenzo, Miss Universe Argentina 2010 and 2006's Reina Nacional del Mar, is one of the judges.

The Reina Nacional de la Vendimia will be elected on March 5. The pageant is an integral part of the Fiesta Nacional de la Vendimia (The Grape Harvest Festival) which has taken place since 1936 in Mendoza, Argentina. The country is the 5th largest producer of wine in the world, and the Fiesta Nacional de la Vendimia is a world-renowned celebration of wine and the winemaking industry.
